Costa hosts first Community Reference Group meeting

16th Jun 2021

Costa hosted its first meeting of its Community Reference Group last week.
The Costa Tomato Exchange Community Reference Group has been established to promote open and active communication between the community in Guyra and the surrounding areas and Costa.
Discussion included ideas for possible future tours of the new site, the recent launch of the Costa Sustainability Report, employment trends and community sponsorship opportunities.
The community members are Dot Vickery, the Reverend Andrew Campbell and David Bearup.
The group is independently chaired by Susan Frater-Sims, with Costa members Peter Davis and Brigid Veale.
“We are delighted to have members of our local community involved and look forward to working collaboratively over the coming year,” Peter said.
“With around 650 people employed across our two sites at Elm Street and the New England Highway, we are a major employer and take our responsibility to the community very seriously.”
Peter said the $80 million expansion of the New England Highway site was getting close to completion, with initial planting to start at the end of June.
“The world-class glasshouse expansion will increase our production area to 40 hectares and create an additional 160 jobs.”
