Guyra based MLC Aileen MacDonald OAM said she is honoured to have been appointed to the role of Shadow Minister for Youth Justice and proud to be part of the team led by Oppostion Leader Mark Speakman.
Aileen believes that her previous role working with adults in community corrections means she is well placed to represent the issues and concerns of those in the Youth Justice sector, applying the expertise and skills acquired during 10 years with Corrective Services NSW.
“I am determined to engage with stakeholders and to ensure the clear vision and goals of Youth Justice, and especially the wellbeing of youth currently within the Youth Justice network, remains the focus of all involved, and to ensure that community safety is a top priority,” Aileen said.
“I acknowledge that behaviour change can be difficult; however, the vision of Youth Justice is to empower young people to fulfil their potential without offending so that they can thrive in the community.
“This is done through community-based intervention and programs that provide tools which assist and empower young people in contact with Youth Justice to make better choices in their lives.
“Our focus moving forward is to operate as a constructive opposition and, as Mr Speakman said on his election as the Opposition Leader, we will be offering support where it is warranted and hold the Government to account where they fail the community.
“We will make sure Labor deliver on their promises and serve the people rather than union bosses and vested interests.”
