Explore Racecourse Lagoon

27th Oct 2026

Locals are invited to discover the ecological importance of Racecourse Lagoon and learn about ongoing restoration efforts at a free field day exploring wetlands, wildlife and regional biosecurity.
The Botany, Biosecurity, Bugs and Birds field day will be held on Tuesday, November 17, from 10am to 2pm at Racecourse Lagoon, Uralla.
The event will bring together local knowledge and specialist expertise in wetland plants, birds, beneficial insects, weeds and biosecurity, highlighting the role wetlands play in supporting biodiversity.
The morning program will introduce the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust Highland Wetlands project and restoration work being undertaken at Racecourse Lagoon through the NSW Environmental Trust’s Conservation and Ecological Restoration of Racecourse Lagoon project.
Presenters will discuss wetland habitats, common bird and insect species, local weed threats and general biosecurity practices. Regional issues, including avian influenza and cane toads, will also be covered.
After lunch, participants can join guided field sessions focusing on identifying wetland plants, birds and insects, as well as a walk around the lagoon perimeter to explore revegetation work.
The field day is suitable for landholders, community groups, birdwatchers, families, students and anyone interested in local biodiversity and environmental conservation.
The event is funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust and supported by the NSW Environmental Trust, Uralla Shire Council and Southern New England Landcare Ltd, among other project partners.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a chair, hat, sunscreen and sturdy enclosed footwear, and to dress appropriately for outdoor conditions.
Registration is free and available online.
