Year 7 Students Take on Lake Ainsworth: A Camp to Remember

07th Apr 2026

Nineteen Year 7 students from Guyra Central School recently embarked on an unforgettable adventure at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreational Facility. The camp, held over several action-packed days, was filled with excitement, teamwork, and resilience as students participated in a variety of activities designed to build confidence and strengthen friendships.
The journey began early in the morning on March 19th, with students eagerly gathering their gear and boarding the bus for the four-hour trip. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by camp leader Dan, who set the tone with jokes, clear instructions, and guided the group to their cabins.
The first activity, “Navy Seals,” brought students together on the beach, where they braved the chilly ocean, completed exercises, and worked as a team. The fun continued with raft building, where students constructed floating vessels from materials like rope, milk cartons, and pool noodles, putting their engineering skills to the test.
Highlights of the camp included a full day on the water with sailing and stand-up paddleboarding, where laughter and playful competition ensued as students and staff attempted to stay upright. Indoor rock climbing proved both challenging and rewarding, with every student conquering the wall under the guidance of encouraging instructors—some even breaking records!
The final day featured Archery Tag, offering a chance for friendly competition and letting teachers and students alike show off their aim. After lunch in Grafton, the group returned home, greeted by parents and loved ones, ready for a restful weekend.
Teachers, parents, and students worked together to raise funds for the camp, ensuring every participant was well-prepared. Staff praised the students for their positive attitudes and willingness to tackle new experiences.
The impact of the camp was evident, with students returning full of stories and newfound confidence, ready to take on future challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Thanks to all who contributed, and with memories made and bonds strengthened, anticipation is already building for next year’s adventure at Lake Ainsworth.
