Local Students Shine at Aboriginal Dance Workshop

17th Mar 2026

On March 11th, students from Guyra Central School had the opportunity to participate in the Secondary Aboriginal Dance Workshop held at Armidale Secondary College.
Accompanied by Eunice Blair and Miss Woods, the group engaged in a program coordinated by the NSW Department of Education’s Arts Unit, with support from the Bangarra Dance Theatre Youth Programs team.
Bangarra Dance Theatre, celebrated both nationally and internationally for its professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers, is renowned for sharing Indigenous culture through the performing arts. The workshop offered students a valuable chance to deepen their cultural understanding and develop artistic skills alongside industry experts.
The participants represented their school with distinction. Notably, some students were chosen to pursue further opportunities with Bangarra Dance Theatre, while others have been encouraged to submit video applications for continued involvement.
This initiative not only provided enriching cultural and artistic experiences, but also established new pathways for young Indigenous dancers to develop their talents and consider future careers in the arts.
