Council partners with ZapCat to help residents reduce energy costs year-round

07th Jul 2026

Armidale Regional Council has partnered with ZapCat to offer residents free, independent advice to make their homes more energy efficient, helping households stay comfortable and reduce power bills in both warmer and cooler months.
Through this trial, residents can access expert guidance on a range of practical home upgrades, including solar and batteries, hot water heat pumps, reverse cycle air conditioning, insulation and draught proofing, and more.
The initiative is designed to give residents clear, unbiased information so they can make informed decisions about improving energy efficiency and reducing ongoing household costs.
A limited number of funded one-on-one consultation sessions will also be available, providing tailored advice to help households identify the most effective upgrades for their home.
Mayor Sam Coupland said the partnership reflects Council’s commitment to supporting the community through rising energy costs while promoting practical sustainability outcomes.
“We know cost-of-living pressures are front of mind for many households, and energy bills are a big part of that. This program gives residents access to independent advice so they can make informed choices that work for their home and budget,” said Mayor Sam Coupland.
“Simple upgrades like insulation, efficient heating and cooling, or moving to electric appliances can make a real difference. By helping residents use less energy, we’re also contributing to a more sustainable future for the Armidale region.”
Residents can get started online in just a few minutes, with an instant estimate of potential costs, savings and available rebates, or choose to book a free virtual consultation with an expert advisor.
Spaces for personalised consultations are limited, and residents are encouraged to register early.
