Guyra Central School students recently broadened their horizons at the 7th biennial Tamworth Agricultural Careers Expo, held at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School on Thursday, June 11th. The event brought together universities, TAFE, training organisations, and rural job providers, offering students a valuable insight into the vast array of career opportunities available in the agricultural sector.
During the expo, students had the chance to speak with industry professionals, university lecturers, and leaders, as well as network with peers from across the region. Hands-on activities were a highlight of the day, including truck driving simulators, rides in tractors and trucks, close encounters with farming implements, and an engaging drone demonstration.
Guyra Central School Agriculture Teacher Miss Grace Collins, said the experience opened students’ eyes to the multitude of pathways agriculture offers beyond school.
“Our students returned with fresh knowledge and enthusiasm, ready to explore further opportunities in primary industry,” she said.
The group is now looking forward to their next excursion to AgQuip, Australia’s largest primary industry field days. The event reflects the growing importance of agricultural education in preparing students for future careers and ensuring regional industries continue to thrive.
