Help keep our train on the tracks

01st Jul 2025

The Guyra and District Historical Society are looking for more volunteers to come forward to keep the little red train on the tracks.
They have put a call for anyone who might be interested to come along to a morning tea which will be held on July 13th at the Train Shed (located in the grounds of the Guyra Railway Station).
The little train, which has been part of local events such as the Lamb and Potato Festival for many years, was brought to town by local Ron Lockyer who saw an opportunity to create a tourist ride along the disused railway tracks.
It is comprised of three separate vehicles, two of which were purchased by Mr Lockyer and a third which was donated by the NSW Government.
It has proved to be a favourite among visitors and a drawcard at local events.
It has not been able to operate recently as there are currently only two volunteer train drivers and the Historical Society is in need of more to ensure it can continue. No special skills are needed to drive the train you just need a car driver’s licence, mandatory children’s check and to be fit and healthy.
Along with train drivers, they are also looking for people to assist in other ways such as selling tickets and joining working bees when needed.
If more people step up to help they are hopeful the train will be operating in time for TroutFest which is being held over the October long weekend.
