New courses to support needs of local community

21st Apr 2026

Two new courses being introduced by the GALA team are aimed at supporting local businesses and strengthening community wellbeing.
GALA CEO Kelso Looker said the new offerings reflect the changing needs of the region.
“These new courses respond directly to local demand,” he said.
“From supporting small businesses to equipping people with skills to help others in times of distress, we are committed to delivering practical and relevant training.”
The Practical AI Tools for Small Business course will commence at the end of April in Guyra, with additional sessions scheduled across Guyra, Armidale and Glen Innes.
Designed for small business owners in industries such as agriculture, tourism, accommodation, retail and food service, the workshop will explore how artificial intelligence can streamline operations, enhance marketing and save time and money.
Participants will trial a range of AI tools and leave with practical ideas and ready-to-use prompts that can be immediately applied in their business. The course is beginner-friendly and focuses on hands-on learning rather than technical theory.
The second offering, The
Accidental Counsellor, is a one-day, evidence-based professional development program for people who regularly support others in their work or volunteer roles.
Accredited by Suicide Prevention Australia, the course provides participants with the skills and confidence to respond safely and effectively when someone is experiencing emotional distress.
With ongoing challenges such as dry conditions, rising fuel prices and increased cost of living, the importance of community awareness and support skills continues to grow.
The course is suited to a wide range of participants, including social and community workers, educators, managers, frontline staff, support and disability workers, health and aged care professionals, coaches, volunteers and youth leaders.
