$2.9 million Ryanda Street upgrade complete

Armidale Regional Council has completed the major upgrade of Ryanda Street in Guyra, delivering improved road safety, drainage, parking and pedestrian connectivity for the local community.
Mayor Sam Coupland said completion of the $2.9 million project marks a significant investment in Guyra’s infrastructure and will provide long-term benefits for residents and visitors alike.
“This project has transformed an important section of Ryanda Street and delivered real improvements for people who live, work and spend time in this part of Guyra,” Mayor Coupland said.
“The upgrade not only improves road safety and drainage for local residents but also provides better parking and safer access for the many people who use the nearby sporting fields and recreational facilities.”
The project included the installation of new piped stormwater drainage from south of Urandangie Street to north of Tenterden Street, supporting future road improvements in the area. Ryanda Street between Ollera and Tenterden Streets has been reconstructed with new kerb and guttering, subsoil drainage, upgraded property accesses and a reshaped road pavement.
Twenty-eight new angled parking spaces have also been delivered alongside the sports field, improving parking capacity for sporting clubs, community groups and spectators.
The addition of new active transport infrastructure was another important outcome of the project.
“I was pleased to inspect the completed works last week with Cr Eli Imad and Cr Susan
McMichael, and see firsthand the improvements that have been made,” said Mayor Coupland.
“The new shared path between Dutton Parade and Ollera Street creates a safer and more accessible connection for pedestrians and cyclists and will ultimately link with the existing pathway near Guyra Central School.”
“These upgrades help create a safer, more connected and more accessible community while supporting future growth in Guyra.”
The Ryanda Street upgrade was funded by Armidale Regional Council, including funding generated through the Special Rate Variation.
