Guy Fawkes Heritage Brumbies open day

Ranger Nick will share cooking and bushcraft skills at the Open Day
06th Oct 2026

For the first time in over six years, recently trapped Guy Fawkes Brumbies will return to the Guy Fawkes Heritage Horse Association Open Day on Sunday, October 11th. The event marks a major milestone with local heritage horses available for public sale for the first time since 2020.
More than a standard open day, the community event celebrates local history while offering attendees an unprecedented chance to meet and adopt these extraordinary high-country horses.
Renowned for their intelligence, level-headed temperament, sure-footedness, resilience, and trainability, these horses have built a strong reputation as versatile, gentle, and dependable mounts across a wide array of equestrian disciplines.
Adding authentic Australian bush tradition to the program is multi-award-winning Aussie bush cook Ranger Nick. Known for holding the World Record title for the longest damper, Ranger Nick will fire up the camp ovens to demonstrate the art of baking the perfect damper. Freshly baked damper and traditional Billy Tea will be available throughout the day, with Ranger Nick donating 100% of his fee directly to the Association’s fundraising efforts.
“I’m all about keeping our Australian traditions alive and giving back to the community - especially when it’s supporting such a worthy cause,” said Ranger Nick.
Alongside the food and bushcraft, the schedule includes a live wild-horse handling demonstration, local market stalls, and lunch options for purchase.
Visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with Association committee members, learn about the passive trapping and re-homing process, and discover how humane management serves as a viable alternative to aerial culling.
The primary mission of the fundraising day is to ensure the preservation of this distinct local breed while advocating for sustainable and ethical horse management. By opening access to passive-trapped horses, the Association aims to secure safe, long-term homes for the animals while raising vital operational funds.
Whether you are an experienced equestrian searching for your next mount, a local family seeking a day of classic bush hospitality, or a visitor curious about Australian heritage, the 2026 Open Day offers something for everyone. Attendees are invited to meet the horses up close, enjoy a cup of Billy Tea and damper, and support the ongoing conservation of the Guy Fawkes Heritage Horse.
It has been a long wait, but the horses are back. Admission is open to the public on Sunday, October 11, from 8:00am to 2pm at 1378 Guyra Road, Wongwibinda, NSW
