13th Oct 2026

Guyra VRA Rescue NSW volunteers joined emergency services in a challenging 22-hour operation in Washpool National Park after a 60-year-old woman was injured in a fall on Saturday, October 10th.
Crews from Guyra, Glen Innes and Inverell worked alongside NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to reach the woman in rugged terrain.
Two specialist rescue members and a paramedic remained with her overnight, providing shelter and medical care until conditions allowed a safe evacuation on Sunday morning.
The woman was winched to safety and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All crews returned safely, with the operation highlighting the dedication, endurance and teamwork of regional rescue volunteers and partner agencies.
