Double premiership glory for Junior League

09th Sep 2025

The Guyra Junior Rugby League Club is celebrating a remarkable end to the season after claiming two premiership trophies over the weekend.
Both the Senior and Intermediate League Tag teams secured grand final victories, capping off impressive seasons with championship wins. Despite a strong effort, the Under 16s team was narrowly defeated in their grand final clash.
The ILT game was in the balance until the final seconds of the game and was looking at going into extra time. Player of the match Tae Tae Torrens scored a runaway try in the dying moments of the game to secure the win 16-10 over Bingara.
The SLT side were the underdogs on the day, but stuck to their game plan and got the win. It was a tight game but Guyra held their cool, upsetting the favourites Inverell 16-10. Once again it was a close game coming down to the last minutes and the girls stepped up, becoming back to back premiers. Gwen Landsborough was named as player of the match.
The Under 16s were neck to neck for most of the game, however Inverell got away with a few tries winning 26-16. Playing the heat and with few reserves Guyra stuck it to Inverell and were unlucky on the day.
In further recognition of the club’s success and strong performance across all age groups, Guyra was named joint Championship Club of the Year, sharing the title with Inverell.
Group awards also went to Hugo Brazier who was named Under 16s Player of the Year and Angus McKay who took home the Under 9s Sportsmanship Award.
Club President Gina Lockyer praised the players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters for their dedication throughout the year.
“It was great to see so many supporters make the trip to Warialda and once again Guyra had the biggest support crew which helped the teams out on the field.
“The biggest winner on the day was the heart shown by all the Guyra players and the club couldn’t have been prouder of their efforts.”
