Celebrate our wetlands in February

31st Jan 2023

The 50th anniversary of the Mother of Ducks Nature Reserve’s being gazetted will be celebrated as part of the World Wetland Day anniversary celebration.
If you’re an avid birdwatcher, join this short walk around these precious upland wetlands and discover which animals live here, and learn about the cultural significance of this unique wetland environment.
National Parks and Wildlife will have experts on-hand to provide tips for aspiring birdwatchers, and share stories with experienced twitchers. You can learn about the importance of these incredible upper wetlands.
Following the walk there will be a light barbecue lunch and cutting of a celebratory cake.
The celebration will take place on Sunday February 5th, from10.30am to 2pm. Meet at the picnic area along McKie Drive, on the western side.
Bookings are not required. For more information, call the NPWS Armidale area office on 02 6738 9100.
There will also be an Open Day at Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve on February 25th to acknowledge the only internationally recognised wetland on the Northern Tablelands.
With conditions drying out somewhat over the past month following successive wet summers, it is an opportunity to spend time with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Ranger responsible for the Reserve and hear about the conservation actions taking place.
Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve is located on Bagot Road off Tubbamurra Road approx. 18km north of Guyra. The Open Day will take place on Saturday February 25th from 10am – 3pm
