Beautiful weather, lots of people and a festive feel were the hallmarks of the community lunch at Guyra Neighbourhood Centre last week.
The event was the culmination of the year and also a thank you to the services who utilise the centre and the many people who come through the doors for many and varied reasons.
Centre manager Sarah Hunt said that when they put the call out for donations for the Christmas party, they were overwhelmed by the generosity of business and individual members of the community.
“A number of business houses in Guyra and Armidale willingly donated goods, but what is pleasing is that there was also a lot of private donations,” Sarah said.
“Services got on board, businesses got on board and individuals got on board - we literally had people coming through the doors with hundreds of dollars worth of food and presents.”
“It was just such a nice way to celebrate the festive season and also a nice way to finish the year and thank all those who have made use of the Neighbourhood Centre during the course of the year.
The hampers and toys were distributed to community members at the Christmas party which was held in the community garden on Tuesday December 5th.
Among those attending was Jann Karp from Armidale who shared a table with locals Bernie and Lorna Brazier.
“I sat and chatted with them for a while and found them both lovely interesting people, Jann said.
“We shared stories about mutual friends.
“Thank you to the volunteers who felt the heat, who worked hard, but gave us all an enjoyable lunch.”
