Team Guyra hits the road for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service

The Ride for the Chopper, one of the major annual fundraisers for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been completed for another year. This year’s 8-day ride took participants on a route from Lightning Ridge through Narrabri, Boggabri, and Lake Keepit, before finishing at the helicopter base in Tamworth.
The event featured 49 bike riders supported by a dedicated team of two paramedics. Among the riders was Team Guyra who fielded seven riders and contributed well above their number in dollar terms.
A core component of participating in the ride is fundraising. So far, the Guyra team has raised $24,651, with additional funds still coming in from upcoming wool and wood sales. The team is well on track to reach its overall target of $29,000.
This outstanding result would not be achievable without the tremendous generosity of people throughout the area who kindly donated sheep, lambs, and wool, as well as those who contributed via online donations and corporate sponsorships. A special thanks goes to the buyers who paid well above market rates for the donated sheep, lambs, and wool to support the cause.
Across its three bases in Belmont (Newcastle), Tamworth, and Lismore, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service completed 1,615 missions in 2025. Community contributions ensure that this critical service remains free to all in need, with 100% of all raised funds going directly to the Chopper Service.
Overall, the total raised across all riders, donations, and sponsorships currently exceeds $100,000, with contributions still being tallied.
