Caspers claim premiership double on historic day for Guyra sport

The Guyra Caspers have capped a memorable season by securing both the Minor and Major premiership, defeating Glen Innes 1–0 in a tightly contested grand final.
A great header from Tyson Burey header in the 20th minute proved the difference, while goalkeeper Damo Hutton delivered a man-of-the-match performance, including a crucial second-half penalty save.
Burey’s decisive goal came from a Charlie White throw-in, with the forward meeting the delivery with a powerful header to put the Caspers ahead.
What followed was a hard-fought tussle, with Glen Innes pushing for an equaliser and Guyra showing the determination and resilience needed to protect their slender advantage.
The defining moment of the second half arrived when Glen Innes was awarded a penalty midway through the period. With the Caspers lead hanging in the balance, Hutton rose to the occasion, saving the spot kick to keep Guyra in front.
His heroics proved decisive in a match where there was little separating the two sides, earning him man-of-the-match honours on the biggest stage of the season.
Just as significant was the contribution of the Caspers’ younger generation. In a high-pressure grand final, Guyra’s young players stood tall, showing composure, commitment, and a willingness to take responsibility when their team needed them most.
Alongside their experienced teammates, they helped the Caspers hold firm through a tense contest and secure a memorable clean sheet.
The final whistle confirmed a historic achievement for Guyra as they became Minor and Major premiers in front of a buzzing crowd for Guyra’s first ever grand final at home. Built on a match-winning header, outstanding goalkeeping and a determined team effort, the victory gave the Caspers and their supporters every reason to celebrate.
