Last Friday 30th October the Australian Council for Educational Leaders & Australian College of Educations held their annual Joint Awards Evening at the Armidale Bowling Club.
Mrs Sharon Wittig, Principal at St Mary of the Angels School, was the extremely worthy recipient of The JA Sutherland Memorial Award for her Significant Contribution to Education.
Sharon has dedicated her life to advocating and advancing the rights of rural children to an education equal to, if not better, than that provided in cities or larger schools.
The pinnacle of Sharon’s professional achievement is her sustained leadership of St. Mary of the Angels Primary school, Guyra.
For over 35 years, Sharon has brought to bear her passion and zeal for small rural schools, resulting in widespread community and regional recognition, admiration and respect.
Beyond her contributions at St. Mary of the Angels, Sharon has made a significant impact at the Catholic and state system level via representation on numerous curriculum and management committees.
Sharon’s contribution has been sustained, distinctive and truly inspirational. As well providing positive counsel and advice in mentoring roles, Sharon’s expertise and tenacious spirit has ensured greater educational outcomes at state and international levels.
