For the second consecutive year, Moray Pastoral Company of Guyra has claimed top honours as the Most Successful Merino Exhibitor at the 2025 Sydney Royal Easter Show Fleece Competition.
Moray Merinos, owned and operated by James Stewart, earned victories and placings across multiple classes, taking home three major awards.
• The Australian Council of Wool Exporters Perpetual Prize, donated by The Australian Council of Wool Exporters for Best Collection of three Spinners type Merino ewe or wether fleeces unhoused and unrugged.
• The Cliff Friend Perpetual Award donated by Merryville Stud, Boorowa for the Most Successful Exhibitor in the Unhoused and Unrugged Merino Fleece Classes.
• The Thomas Farquhar Hodgson Memorial Perpetual Trophy, donated by the Family of the Late Thomas Farquhar Hodgson for the Most Successful Merino Fleece Exhibitor.
There were 203 fleeces entered in this year’s competition and judge Mark Beazley (Riverina Wools) said there was a range in quality.
“Anything which was exceptionally well prepared came to the front,” he said. “The commercial reality of life is weight wins.”
