Former Guyra resident Joyce Ramage has reached an incredible milestone, celebrating her 100th birthday on Sunday, September 7th, with family and friends at Tabeel Aged Care Laidley, Qld.
Born in 1925, Joyce grew up in Narrabri with her parents and siblings. At just 16 years of age, with the world at war, she joined the Land Army learning to drive tractors and trucks, cared for stock, and picked fruit and vegetables - skills that would shape her strong and resilient character.
In 1944 Joyce was posted to Guyra, where she met Allan Ramage, and after a three-year courtship, they married in Newcastle in November 1947. Together they raised six children – Lynn, Geoff, Margaret, Phillip, Diane, and Neil while working side by side and building a life in the Guyra district.
In 1974, with their children grown, Joyce and Allan moved to Wee Jasper, where they spent eight happy years and made many lifelong friends. Retirement later took them to Ipswich, before they settled in Ballina to be closer to family. After 71 years of marriage, Allan passed away, and Joyce eventually moved to Tabeel, where she has been warmly embraced by staff and residents since 2020.
Joyce’s family tree now spans six children, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, a legacy of more than 70 descendants.
Her life has spanned remarkable times and remained independent well into her 90s.To her family, Joyce is the heart of their story - a woman of strength, resilience, and love, who continues to inspire across generations.
