Coming home to Guyra

Growing up in Guyra, Peter Davis did not imagine he would one day be overseeing one of Australia’s largest and most advanced glasshouse operations, with a workforce of up to 600 people.
Peter is the Operations Manager for Costa’s Tomato glasshouses, covering more than 30 hectares over two sites in Elm Street and the New England Highway.
“I am pretty proud to be in the position I am especially being a local boy,” Peter said.
“I grew up in Guyra but moved away when I was 19. I worked in steel recycling and the container industry in Brisbane.”
After spending some years in the city, Peter and his wife decided to make the move back to Guyra.
“We moved down here and our son started school here. My father was working at the Costa Glasshouse and I started off doing a bit of labouring and then moved into a safety role.
“In 2018, our Operations Manager moved on and the role came up. I always thought that role would suit me so I threw my hat in the ring and was successful.”
Peter, who has completed a Graduate Certificate and Master’s degree in safety, oversees the growing operations, maintenance and production across the two sites.
“There’s always something different happening. We have excellent people here who complement each other and we all work well as a team. It makes it so much more enjoyable when you have good people around you.
“The company has really helped me to progress my career and it’s great to see other local people come up in the business.”
