Deadline extended for CBD roadworks

20th May 2021

The long awaited Guyra CBD upgrade has hit a further snag, with works now expected to extend well into June.
Work commenced on the Nincoola to Mackenzie St section of Bradley St in late April and was expected to take three weeks to complete.
A statement issued by ARC General Manager James
Roncon on Friday confirmed that further excavations are needed.
“Council has been undertaking road rehabilitation works on Guyra’s Bradley Street since the end of April 2021,” Mr Roncon said.
“As expected, excavation works revealed the subgrade was not suitable to construct the new road. Council carried out works to strengthen the foundation, but were not satisfied that it would meet the required standards and the needs of the community.
“After consulting with engineering and geotechnical spcialists, a solution has been developed to deliver a long-lasting road that will meet increased traffic loads while future-proofing the precinct. “This means additional excavation work is required to better stabilise the foundation. Council is working with the community to minimise impact on local businesses and is committed to delivering a high quality outcome.”
