Sheep and lamb drive to support rescue helicopter service

23rd Jun 2026

Local livestock producers are being encouraged to support the annual Sheep and Lamb Drive for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, which will be held next Tuesday, June 30th.
The drive is in support of the Guyra team in the annual Ride for the Chopper, which is one of the major fundraising events for the service in the New England region.
This year, the riders will tackle the journey from the outback town of Lightning Ridge to Tamworth, covering hundreds of kilometres in support of the lifesaving service. All proceeds go directly towards keeping the vital emergency service operating across regional New South Wales.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service provides a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week critical care and rescue service, ensuring patients can access urgent medical assistance when they need it most. Importantly, the service remains free for those who rely on it, thanks to the generosity of communities and fundraising efforts such as the Sheep and Lamb Drive.
Organisers are calling on producers to donate sheep or lambs to help raise funds for the helicopter service and support its ongoing operations.
Anyone wishing to donate livestock is asked to contact Wayne Jenkyn from Elders on 0428 293 556 or speak with their preferred livestock agent.
