Cold spring and cool start to summer

If you thought the first day of summer was cooler than normal you were right. Guyra experienced its coldest December day for 11 years, on Thursday December 1st.
Instead of sunshine, it was an overcast drizzly day with cool easterly winds which restricted the maximum temperature to just 10.9C. This is 11 degrees lower than the average, and was Guyra’s coolest December day since 6th December 2003 (10.7C).
It follows a cooler than average November with the average maximum temperature for the month just 18C compared to the long term average of 20.6C. This was the lowest for the month of November since 1999 (16.8C)
Minimum temperatures for the month were also cooler with the average of 5.8C compared to the long term average of 8.8C. This was the lowest for the month of November since 1947 (5.3). Gardeners were hit hard with three late frosts for the month.
November 2nd and 3rd were the coldest November day and night for 16 years. The maximum temperature of 9.4C on the 3rd was the lowest for the month of November since 16th November 2006 (8.2C), and the minimum of -1.5C on the 3rd was the lowest for November since 17th November 2006 (-2.6C).
