Sun shines on Show

Official opening
22nd Feb 2023

The official opening of the 115th Guyra Show was a chance to acknowledge people in the community who have made
significant contributions to the running of the Show over many years.
Frank White was presented with his Life Membership badge by Show champion Anne Starr, who went on to perform the
official opening.
Show Society President Richard Post said that Frank’s contribution to the Show is ‘nothing short of remarkable’.
Frank is a Past President of the Show Society, served as head steward of the cattle section,
ran the bar, the home brewing competition and is a significant, and ongoing, contributor to the wool section.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall introduced the 2023 Guyra Young Woman (Showgirl) Jasmin Ramage.
Jasmin was sashed by Billy Ross with flowers presented by Citizen of the Year Beth White. Jasmin will represent Guyra at the Zone final in Walcha this weekend.
The honour of performing the official opening went to fifth generation Guyra grazier and Show champion Anne Starr. Anne has a long and impressive list of achievements and there has never been a time when Anne and her family have not been involved in the running of the Guyra Show.
In her speech Anne said it was very humbling to be asked to open the Show.
“The Guyra Show is steeped in so much history that I am proud to be a part of,” she said.
“Generations of my family have been involved and it holds a special place in my heart.”
“At the beginning, the show was all about fairy floss, fireworks and a new frock. It was running from school to see if my gingerbread man had won a ribbon, it was sitting under the shade of the trees watching horse events with my Nan. It was watching the rodeo with my best friend and planning our adventures.”
‘These beautiful showgrounds hold some beautiful memories for me and it was the cattle lawns that fostered my love for showing cattle.’
“I have stood on this stage as the Guyra Showgirl, as the NSW Showgirl finalist and as an RAS Rural Achiever. I have rubbed shoulders with sporting stars, media personalities, the NSW Governor and the Governor
General.”
“The friendships that I have forged on this Showground have lasted a lifetime. The wonderful thing about the Guyra Show is that it doesn’t matter if you have been here for five generations or five minutes. I encourage you to be involved.”
