Water main upgrade underway in Wirruna Street

Armidale Regional Council (ARC) will begin important water infrastructure upgrades along the full length of Wirruna Street on August 10th. The project is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete, weather permitting.
The project will replace the existing water main, which has reached the end of its service life and has experienced a number of bursts, leaks and water flow issues over recent years. The new pipelines will be installed in the footpath areas rather than the roadway, making future maintenance easier and helping to improve the reliability of the local water supply.
As part of the upgrade, ARC will also replace ageing property water connections with new copper service lines, providing a more reliable connection to homes and businesses.
The project includes installing a new 100mm PVC water main along the northern side of Wirruna Street and a new 63mm poly pipeline along sections of the southern side. Existing property water connections will be replaced with new copper connections, and the new pipelines will be connected to the town’s water network to improve the reliability of the local water supply.
While the work is underway, residents may experience temporary water interruptions, short periods of restricted driveway access, construction noise and temporary footpath closures. We ask residents to bear with us during these essential upgrades, which will help improve the reliability of the local water supply. Council will provide advance notice of any planned disruptions and work to minimise inconvenience wherever possible.
ARC will work closely with residents to minimise disruption. Affected residents will receive a construction notification letter, with Council staff also door-knocking to provide information and answer questions. Advance notice will be given for any planned water interruptions, and traffic management and signage will be in place to maintain safe vehicle and pedestrian access throughout the project.
The project is funded by ARC Water and will be delivered by Council’s in-house construction crews. These upgrades will improve the reliability of the local water network, remove dead ends from the network to enhance water reticulation and water quality, reduce the risk of future water main failures, and ensure residents continue to receive a safe and dependable water supply for years to come.
