11th May 2021

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, has congratulated three groups in New England who have each been approved for a grant under the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.
“Guyra Garden Club will receive $10,000 to install plaques at the base of trees in Guyra Memorial Park to commemorate the service and sacrifice of local defence personnel in all wars, conflicts and peace operations,” Mr Joyce said.
Gwydir Shire Council will receive $5,000 to contribute to costs associated with the annual Bingara Orange Festival that commemorates the service of local personnel who died in the First and Second World Wars.
“A grant of $8,000 will also be given to the Armidale & District National Servicemen’s Association Sub-branch Inc to publish a book outlining the four different National Service schemes in Australia between 1911 and 1972,” Mr Joyce said.
The Saluting Their Service program is an Australian Government initiative that aims to honour the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service men and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and to promote appreciation and understanding of the role that those who served have played in shaping the nation.
