Strong community backing for Tingha Playground Upgrades

14th Oct 2025

The Tingha community has thrown its full support behind Inverell Shire Council’s plans to upgrade local playgrounds and public amenities, following an extensive round of community consultation earlier this year.
A new concept plan has been developed in direct response to community feedback, outlining staged improvements to Tingha’s recreational spaces.
Key features include:
• Upgrading the New Valley Road playground, opposite the Tingha Sport and Recreation Club, with modern play equipment catering to all ages, new public toilets, and improved sporting infrastructure.
• Repurposing Grahame Park into a passive recreation area with BBQs, seating and shade retained, but with playground equipment removed due to flood risks and traffic concerns.
• Refurbishing the Ruby Street public amenities, located beside the Town Hall and opposite the Royal Hotel.
The consultation, held in June and July through Council’s website, social media, local radio, and community displays, drew 79 survey responses — with 91% supporting the proposed playground layout and 78% backing the Grahame Park repurposing.
Mayor Cr Kate Dight said the strong results showed Tingha residents were united behind the vision.
“The Tingha community has been very engaged in shaping this concept plan, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” Cr Dight said.
“These upgrades will create a safer, more modern and inclusive recreational space for families and young people, while preserving Grahame Park as a valuable green area for relaxation.”
Council will now move ahead with detailed design work for key infrastructure including toilets, car parking, shared pathways and lighting. A funding strategy will be developed to seek State and Federal Government grants.
In the meantime, several low-cost improvements are on the way, such as a new multi-sport goal post at the New Valley Road playground, footpath upgrades for better accessibility, and possible relocation of playground equipment from Grahame Park
