Every Student, Every Voice

28th Aug 2019

Education Week is an annual event, held during the first week of August, to celebrate NSW public education. The theme for 2019 is Every Student, Every voice.
This year’s Education Week Special Award recipients for Guyra Central School were Mrs Jenny Atkin, Mr Scott Miller, Mrs Joanne Dullaway and Colleen Pearson. –
Jenny Atkin began her journey as a student at Guyra Central School and since then has worked as an educator before moving into the Assistant Principal role and more recently as the instructional leader at the school. In this role, she works with the whole school community to improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy and is an inspirational teacher and a fantastic role model to all.
Scott Miller teaches Agriculture, Primary Industries and STEM and has classes full of enthusiastic, engaged students. He spends enormous amounts of time working with students, preparing them and livestock for local show competitions and also coaches numerous sides in multiple codes of football. One of his outstanding results is when the Guyra Central School’s under 13s team made it to the State final and Country Cup.
Joanne Dullaway works tirelessly in the canteen and even volunteers on her days off. She is an active member of the P&C, and has started a bottle recycling program at school, trying to encourage students to do their part for the environment. Each year she makes a beautiful cake for the Year 6 Graduation Dinner which I know students and teachers are extremely appreciative of.
Colleen Pearson is an active SRC representative and Creative Arts captain. She assists at Guyra Central School breakfast club most mornings and attends P&C meetings as a student voice. Outside of school she sets up and packs up the arts section at the Guyra Show, is a CWA junior member and does a sewing club in the holidays with other students
