Lions Youth of the Year Quest

On Wednesday, November 15th the Guyra Lions Club held the annual Youth of the Year competition. The competition comprises two parts – an interview and a public speaking section.
Four contestants competed including Oliver Flynn, Trisha Varley, Brooke Grills and Jada Alefosio with all contestants being from Guyra Central School. The contestants were interviewed by a panel of three judges who asked questions about their school and personal interests and activities as well as testing each one’s general knowledge.
The second part of the competition involves public speaking, with the judges rating them on their responses to two impromptu questions which each contestant spoke about for up to two minutes. After this they were each asked to give a prepared speech for up to five minutes.
The winner of the public speaking section was Brooke Grills and the overall winner was Trisha Varley, who will go on to the regional competition to be held in Guyra in February next year.
