Volunteers needed for poetry events

The Guyra community is gearing up for an exciting line-up of poetry events, and organisers are calling for enthusiastic volunteers to join the team and help make these occasions truly special. From the heat and workshops of the Australian Poetry Slam on August 14th and 15th to the Poets on the Mountain Festival scheduled for November 12th to 17th, there are plenty of opportunities for poetry lovers to get involved.
Event Coordinator James Warren said he is thrilled to see the return of heats and workshops for the Australian Poetry Slam, which was held in Guyra for the first time in 2023. It will be taking place on August 14th and 15th.
The Poetry Slam provides poets and enthusiasts with a platform to showcase their talents, learn from each other, celebrate the power of spoken word, plus an opportunity for two regional poets to go to the state final in Sydney.
In addition to the Australian Poetry Slam, the Poets on the Mountain Festival will return in 2024, with the event slated for November 12th to 17th. This multi-day event promises to be a celebration of poetry in all its forms, featuring readings, performances, workshops, and more.
“We’re excited to bring the Poets on the Mountain Festival to Guyra, offering a diverse range of activities and experiences for poetry enthusiasts of all ages,” James said.
“From seasoned poets to aspiring wordsmiths, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and participate in.
“To ensure the success of both the Poetry Slam and the Festival, we are looking for volunteers, who will play a crucial role in organising and running these events, helping with tasks such as promotion, logistics, stage management, and workshop facilitation.
“We welcome volunteers from all walks of life to join us in bringing these poetry events to life, whether you’re a seasoned event organiser or someone who simply loves poetry and wants to get involved, we invite you to join us in creating memorable experiences for our community.”
Monthly organising meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of each month at 5:30pm at the Australian Poetry Hall of Fame, providing an opportunity for volunteers to contribute their ideas and expertise.
