A timely warning from New England Police with school holiday’s currently underway. It’s all about reducing the risk and removing the opportunity.
Here are just a few simple tips to help you reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a break and enter/stealing offences:
1. Ensure premises are always locked and secure when absent, even for a short time.
2. Install CCTV, modern CCTV cameras and recording equipment are a cost effective preventative measure and powerful investigative tool.
3. Keep a detailed and up to date property inventory. Be sure to record any serial numbers and/or identifying markers or unique characteristics of the property.
4. External doors have deadlocks, windows have keylocks, internal door between garage and house has a deadlock and keys aren’t left in locks. Ensure all locks comply with Australian standards.
5. Ensure vehicles are always locked, no items of value are left in vehicles (or are not visible if they must be), garage remotes are secured or removed from the vehicle.
6. Keep a look out for suspicious behaviour in your area and if in doubt contact your local police.
Anyone with information about criminal activity in the community is urged to contact your local
police station or Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or online https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
