Black Mountain Public School marks Reconciliation Week

09th Jun 2026

Black Mountain Public School proudly acknowledged National Reconciliation Week on Thursday, May 28th, with a range of activities designed to promote understanding, respect and connection with Aboriginal culture and history.
This year’s Reconciliation Week theme, “All In”, encourages all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day and to work together towards a more united future.
The school was pleased to welcome guest speaker Tremane Patterson, who shared valuable insights into the significance of Reconciliation Week and the importance of recognising and respecting Australia’s First Nations peoples.
He explained the workings of the Banbai Winba Fire Calendar, a traditional ecological calendar that reflects Indigenous knowledge of seasonal changes and land management practices.
As part of the day’s celebrations, students and staff enjoyed a beautifully decorated Reconciliation Cake, and helped to plant a native Grevillea in the school’s Reconciliation Garden.
