Finalists from across NSW stepped onto the stage at the Sydney Royal Easter Show on Thursday, April 2nd, auctioning three steers each as part of the 2026 ALPA NSW Young Auctioneers Competition.
Among them was Guyra’s Myles Williams of Elders Rural Services, who delivered a strong performance in front of judges and a large crowd. Following a trip to Sydney that included official events and networking opportunities in the lead-up to the competition, Myles made the most of his time in the spotlight.
On the day, he impressed judges with his confident delivery and clear, professional style, selling exceptionally well in the ring. His efforts were recognised with the Max Bailey Encouragement Award.
The competition was won by Sam Thomas of Nutrien Milling Thomas, Dubbo, with runner-up honours going to Joshua Fenech of Jim Hindmarsh and Son, Moss Vale. Both winners will return to the Sydney Royal in 2027 to compete at the national level.
Myles was backed by a strong support crew, with family and work colleagues making the trip to Sydney to cheer him on.
Adding to the significance of the result, last year’s encouragement award recipient went on to claim this year’s overall title.
ALPA CEO Peter Baldwin praised the calibre of this year’s competition, noting that livestock auctioneering remains a highly specialised and time-honoured skill.
“The performances we’ve witnessed demonstrate the exceptional depth of talent within our industry, Mr Baldwin said.
“These young professionals not only delivered outstanding results in the ring, but also showcased the dedication, resilience, and expertise that will carry our industry forward.
“ALPA remains committed to fostering the next generation of auctioneers, ensuring the traditions of the profession continue to evolve while maintaining the highest standards of excellence.”
