Education Week - Inspiring excellence at Guyra Central

Guyra Central School proudly celebrated Education Week 2026 under this year’s theme, Inspiring Excellence, highlighting the strength, diversity, and achievements of NSW public education. The weeklong festivities brought together students, staff, and community members in recognition of outstanding contributions and achievements across all areas of school life.
Education Week honours the dedication to supporting every student to learn, grow and thrive, with special acknowledgement for high potential and gifted learners. This year’s Education Week Awards showcased the exceptional talents and commitment within the Guyra Central School community:
Staff Member Award: Gwyn Pearson was recognised for going above and beyond her expected duties, particularly for her invaluable work at the School Farm and her contributions to the Guyra Show.
Secondary Student Award: Charlie Ward was honoured for her outstanding achievements in sport coupled with her exemplary leadership skills.
Primary Student Award: Ashton Hutton received praise for his courteous nature, willingness to try new things, strong work ethic, and kindness towards peers.
Community Member Award: Rebecca Woods was commended for her engaging work with students through gardening and cooking activities and her encouraging, kind nature.
A highlight of the celebrations was the reintroduction of the Guyra Central School Hall of Fame, recognising past students who have achieved significant success.
This year, Major Erin Archibald was inducted in recognition of her distinguished military career.
Major Archibald, a proud local from Guyra, has served in the Australian Army since 2010, undertaking key leadership and operational roles across Afghanistan, Iraq, UAE, and Kuwait. Her exceptional service has been internationally recognised, including receiving the US Defence Meritorious Service Medal

Major Archibald’s dedication to leadership, logistic operations, and training development has made a lasting impact. Her academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New England and a Master of Military and Defence Studies from Deakin University. She balances her professional career with family life, married to Major Cameron Gibbins and together raising two children.
Education Week culminated with the eagerly anticipated running of the 30th Guyra Gift, with Kobie Killen taking first place, Indigo Atkin securing second, and Sam Torrens placing third.
Guyra Central School would like to extend congratulations to all award winners and thank the entire school community for their ongoing commitment to inspiring excellence.
