Guyra golfers tee up for Centenary celebration

The opening of the Guyra Golf Club by Lord Stonehaven (Governor General) 1928
14th Oct 2025

In what promises to be a milestone week for local sport, Guyra golfers are set to celebrate 100 years of organised golf in the district.
While golf was first played around Guyra as early as 1911, it was in 1925 that the town’s golfers officially formed a club, opened their first clubhouse, and held the inaugural tee-off with members, associates and special guests in attendance.
Now, a century later, the club is marking that rich history with a week of celebrations to coincide with the Veterans Tournament, which begins on Monday, October 20th.
There will be a display of golfing memorabilia which has been gathered and arranged by a team of dedicated volunteers. It includes historic photographs, news articles, trophies, uniforms, old clubs and scorecards.
The lady golfers have also organised a special centenary banner to be displayed throughout the week, adding a splash of colour and pride to the celebrations.
The club is extending a warm invitation to the public, past players and supporters to drop in during the week, browse the display, and share their own memories of golf in Guyra.
Whether you’re a long-time member or just curious about the town’s sporting heritage, the centenary promises to be a wonderful celebration of community, camaraderie and the enduring appeal of a good round of golf.
