How to protect yourself and friends on FaceBook

04th Jul 2023

Scammers create fake Facebook profiles and request to be your friend to gain access to personal information that you restrict to “friends only.” This information may include your contact information for spamming or other personal information that might be useful in setting you up for a phishing attack.
Scammers are making virtual copies of real Facebook accounts by copying the photos and info from the real account’s “About” page to the fake ones. They then send friend requests to the friends listed on the real account.
Scammers may use your friends list to make fake profiles.
• Adjust who can see your Friends section.
• Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
• Select Settings and privacy, then click Settings.
• In the left column, click Privacy.
• Look for the setting Who can see your friends list? and click Edit to the far right.
• Select the audience of people (such as Only Me) you’d like to have access to your friends list. Only Me is the safest option.
Other ways to protect your account:
• Avoid Befriending Strangers
• Don’t Upload All Your Information
• Customize Your Post Privacy
• Lock Your Facebook Profile
• Frequently Check Which Devices You Are Logged In On
• Only Give Necessary Permissions to Facebook
• Perform Privacy Checkups
