A group of Guyra artists are banding together to stage their first Art Show. The GuyrARTists group was formed at the beginning of this year with a small number of people. Instigated by Lynne Chapman, the group has grown with more artists showing interest and bringing their ideas to the table.
Many of the artists spend time hiding away at home creating works that never get seen by the Guyra community, and now they have bitten the bullet and will bravely set up their first art show to showcase their works to the wider community.
Clare O’hara Cooper is a member of the group who came to Guyra six years ago to begin a new life with her old friend Bill Whitby, settling in ‘beautiful’ Ryanda Street.
‘Guyra is a great place, and I’ve got to know a few people through the Garden Club and the Anglers Club,” Clare said.
“My new big interest is the GuyrARTists group. We have learnt that there are more than twenty practising artists in Guyra which is encouraging.
“I love that we get to exchange ideas or just sit and chat to other folk we have a lot in common with.
“We discuss different techniques and mediums, be it sculpture, fibre, paint found objects, metal, jewellery, photography or pastels the list goes on, whatever your interest.
“Everyone is encouraged to have a crack at creating their artworks. It can be quite daunting creating art pieces for display to public, but as a group we are stronger and we will learn and develop artistically together.”
The first GuyrARTist Group Show is called ‘Restrospective’, consisting mostly of work completed in the past. It will be open next Saturday and Sunday May 17th and 18th in the Lamb and Potato Pavilion on the New England Highway (Malpas St.) Entry is free and the exhibition will be open 10am to 4pm each day.
The group has regular get togethers which are usually held on the first Tuesday of the month at Rafters. You don’t have to be a master of the arts as the group has people at all different levels.
