Dispose of unwanted farm chemicals safely

Armidale Regional Council is encouraging local farmers, primary producers and agribusinesses to take part in the upcoming ChemClear collection program, which is now open across New South Wales. This statewide initiative provides a safe and responsible way to dispose of unwanted or obsolete agricultural and veterinary chemicals—helping protect our land, waterways and community.
ChemClear is Australia’s national program for collecting and safely disposing of old, unknown, deregistered or expired AgVet chemicals. Many of these chemicals sit unused in sheds or storage areas, creating potential risks for property owners, workers and the environment. ChemClear offers a regulated and environmentally sound disposal pathway.
The program focuses on Group 2 chemicals, which include:
• Unknown, unlabelled or mixed chemicals
• Products expired by more than two years
• Chemicals deregistered for more than two years
• AgVet chemicals manufactured by companies not participating in drumMUSTER
These chemicals require specialised handling and disposal, and fees normally apply.
Producers in Armidale region may be eligible for funding assistance to help cover disposal costs for Group 2 chemicals. The level of support will depend on the total volume registered and available funding. ChemClear will confirm allocations once registrations close.
There is no separate funding application; if your registration meets the eligibility criteria, it will automatically be considered. Farmers, primary producers and agribusinesses in Armidale region may receive funding support, while producers outside the region are still welcome to participate, with standard ChemClear fees applying. Existing registrations within the region will also be considered, and participants can update or add chemicals as needed.
Register your unwanted chemicals with ChemClear before 31 August 2026. Early registration helps ChemClear plan collection routes and ensures producers receive any available funding support.
Collection dates and locations will be confirmed after registrations close. Registered participants will be contacted directly with instructions on how and where to deliver their chemicals.
Safe chemical disposal is essential for protecting our region’s agricultural land, environment and community wellbeing. By participating in ChemClear, producers can improve onfarm safety and reduce environmental risks, clear out old or unknown chemicals responsibly and support sustainable land management across the region.
