Nominate a Guyra community champion

Four worthy citizens were nominated in 2026, with Leigh Ramage taking the award.

Have you noticed someone in the Guyra community who deserves to be recognised as the next Citizen of the Year?
Nominations are now open for the 2027 Australia Day Awards, with Armidale Regional Council encouraging residents to recognise the individuals and organisations who make a difference across the region.
The awards celebrate people who give their time, energy and passion to strengthen their communities, whether through volunteering, education, health, sport, the arts, environmental work or community service.
Award categories include:
• Citizen of the Year
• Senior Citizen/Elder of the Year
• Young Citizen of the Year
• Community Service Award
• Art, Drama or Music Award
• Environmental Citizen of the Year
• Sports Person of the Year
• Community Group/Event of the Year
Deputy Mayor Todd Redwood said the awards were an opportunity to recognise the people who often work quietly behind the scenes.
“These awards are about recognising the people who work quietly behind the scenes to strengthen our communities and enrich the lives of those around them,” Cr Redwood said.
Residents are encouraged to think about people in their neighbourhoods, sporting clubs, schools, community groups and local organisations who demonstrate commitment, generosity and community spirit.
“A nomination is a simple but meaningful way to thank someone for the contribution they make and to ensure their efforts are recognised by the wider community,” Cr Redwood said.
Nominations are open for both the Armidale and Guyra Australia Day Awards.
Nomination forms are available from GALA, Guyra, or nominations can be submitted online through Armidale Regional Council’s Australia Day Awards page at www.armidale.nsw.gov.au.
