Guyra has won my heart

Hi my name is Carmella Archer. I am fourteen and doing work placement at the Guyra Gazette. I am in year nine at Guyra Central School and a part of the Big Picture program. I moved to Guyra in the middle of November 2024 with my parents, younger sister and Nan from the Northern Beaches in Sydney, after deciding we needed a change in pace from the bustling city life. A big change but one to last. Despite all of the large shopping centres and dozens of beaches that are in Sydney Guyra has still won my heart.
From the kindness of the community to all of the opportunities, Guyra allows you to stand out for your interests. Even now doing something as simple as writing things about myself within GALA I am gaining experience that I would have never gotten before. In Guyra you can walk down a street and every stranger will say hello. For such a small town it is full of things that you would never expect to enjoy. Even the seasons here feel surreal with the bright leaves falling in autumn and the snow that covers the main street in winter.
Guyra has won my heart in so many ways. Even if there aren’t large busses and trains taking people around or any of the more modern technology. Guyra brings a place of subtle history and kind faces. Since coming here I have been able to stand out for what I like doing, like entering troutfest with photography and joining year twelve classes in school.
I believe that coming to Guyra has even changed me as a person as I now say hello to those people on the street when otherwise I would’ve walked past thousands without a glance, and my interests would’ve never grown and developed in the way they have. Thank you for taking a walk with me through my journey into Guyra.
