Free men’s health checks coming to Guyra

Guyra residents will have the opportunity to receive a free health check when the Rotary Men’s Health Education Rural Van (MHERV) visits the town in September.
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Guyra, MHERV will be stationed in Bradley Street, opposite The Blind Chef, on Thursday and Friday, September 10 and 11, from 9.30am to 4.15pm.
The MHERV project has been travelling throughout regional and rural NSW for more than six years, providing free health checks to people who may not regularly visit a doctor.
The program focuses particularly on men, who can be less likely to seek regular health checks, but everyone is welcome to use the service.
A Registered Nurse conducts a series of simple health checks, including blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol testing, before discussing any concerns privately with the visitor.
The service is designed to be relaxed, confidential and informal, with the entire check taking around 10 minutes.
Regular health checks can identify problems such as high blood pressure, blood sugar or cholesterol before symptoms develop.
The MHERV team says early detection can help people take action before health problems become more serious.
The project, operated by the Rotary Club of Warners Bay in collaboration with local Rotary clubs and community organisations, has provided thousands of people across rural and regional NSW with access to basic health screening.
The initiative’s objective is simple — “saving local lives” by encouraging people to take a few minutes to check their health.
The Rotary Club of Guyra is encouraging locals to take advantage of the free service when the van is in town. No appointment is required, and everyone is welcome.
MHERV will be in Guyra on Thursday and Friday, September 10 and 11, from 9.30am to 4.15pm in Bradley Street, opposite The Blind Chef.
