Experienced aviation operator Peter Friel has landed in Armidale and commenced work as the new Airport Manager at Armidale Regional Airport.
“We are excited to welcome Peter to the airport, the council team, and also the region,” said Armidale Regional Council Mayor Sam Coupland.
“The airport is one of our most important assets. It plays a major role in enhancing the economic viability and liveability of Armidale region, providing an integral transport hub.
“Annual passenger numbers through Armidale Regional Airport exceed 120,000. The precinct is also home to an increasing number of significant aviation businesses, amplifying its strategic importance and opportunity to the broader region.
“Peter brings considerable experience, knowledge, and expertise. We look forward to working with him!”
Peter is pleased to have made the move to Armidale region, and after settling in through January said he is feeling at home already.
“I grew up in New South Wales and have strong ties to this region. The cooler climate is also a welcome change after many hot and humid years in Queensland, most recently in Gladstone,” said Peter.
Since beginning his career, Peter has worked at seven airports across Australia, from Tasmania and Far North Queensland to the Kimberley and the Cocos Islands.
He has now relocated to Armidale with his family and is pleased the region offers great educational opportunities, community, and beautiful places to explore.
“I had also heard positive things about Council’s organisational culture, which made the decision to accept this role even easier. Now here, I‘ve felt welcomed and quickly part of Team ARC.
“There are great people on board already at the airport. I’m looking forward to working alongside them, building the team, mentoring the next generation of airport professionals – and together growing this region’s airport.”
Peter brings experience, expertise and a clear vision for what’s possible. He is keen to connect and learn, and enthusiastic to work alongside the community and for Armidale region.
“I am excited for what’s ahead!”
