Armidale Regional Council (ARC) has adviced that commencing December 8th, the Guyra Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily out of service to dismantle and install a new Aluminium Sulfate (Alum) dosing unit, a critical component of the water treatment process.
The work is being undertaken to address recent concerns about taste and odour in the town’s water supply.
ARC’s water team will also undertake a deep clean of the treatment plant while it is off-line. As a result, reservoir levels are expected to drop, and Council is asking for your help to maintain essential supply. Please avoid watering gardens, washing vehicles, filling pools, or cleaning paths during this time.
Specialist crews are conducting inspections across key locations and performing targeted water testing to identify and resolve the issue. These proactive measures include flushing sections of the network and adjusting treatment processes to eliminate the issue and maintain water quality compliance to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
Council assures residents that Guyra’s treated water remains safe to drink, and the current work focuses on improving taste and odour standards.
What’s Happening?
• Field inspections and sampling at affected sites.
• Laboratory testing to confirm water quality.
• Network flushing and treatment adjustments to remove residual odour.
Armidale Regional Council encourage residents to report any ongoing odour issues using the online form rather than posting complaints on social media. This helps our water team take swift action and resolve problems as quickly as possible.
Residents can also contact Council’s Customer Service team on 1300 136 833 or visit the Council website for more information.
Armidale Regional Council says it remains committed to delivering safe, high-quality water and thanks the Guyra community for its cooperation while these improvements are carried out.
