Education week marked at Guyra Central

Education week is an annual celebration of NSW public education and the achievements of our schools, students and education system.  This year’s them was ‘Creating futures – education changes lives’ and celebrates the quality education and opportunities available to everyone in NSW public education.
Guyra Central School held a formal Education Week Assembly, the running of the traditional Guyra Gift and The Snowball on Thursday 8th September 2022. 
Director of Educational Leadership, Northern Tablelands, Mr Chris Bice and Member for Northern Tablelands, Mr Adam Marshall joined us for our Education Week celebrations. 
This year our 2022 Certificates of Recognition were presented to:
Anthony and Mara Grills - For continued support & generosity to Guyra Central School
Anja McIlwain - For being a positive role model and always trying her best 
Bronwyn Paull - For commitment to student learning 
Nioka Levy - For being and excellent leader, role model and commitment to learning  
Guyra Central Schools 2023 Secondary School Captains were inducted and presented with their badges.  Congratulations to Nioka Levy (Captain), Harris Dullaway (Captain) and Dante Lloyd (Vice Captain) and Ellie Mitchell who will be the student leaders for 2023.
Nioka, Harris, Dante and Ellie are excellent role models for our students and we are certain they will fulfill their duties and represent Guyra Central School with Pride, Respect & Responsibility. 
Following the assembly action moved tot he oval for the running of the ‘Guyra Gift’ which has been an annual tradition in 1996.  
The Year 11 (1996) Sport and Recreation class created the ‘Guyra Gift’ handicapped 100 metre sprint race which includes students form K-12 and Teachers participating and it has been an ongoing Education Week tradition.
The 2022 ‘Guyra Gift’ winners were 1st place – Eli McGinty, 2nd place – Mr Riley Carroll, 3rd place –  Thomas Brazier 
The final activity for the day was the ‘Snowball’ which gives students the opportunity to perform and show case their talents. Congratulations to all of the ‘Snowball’ winners: 
Primary winners: 
1st place – Kindergarten performing Tooty Ta, 2nd place – Clee Beechey  - self-choreographed dance to Shallow, 3rd place – Elsie Post – playing Beetle Boots on her violin
Secondary winners : 
1st place – Big Picture 1&2 Band – 7 Nation Army, 2nd place – Kiarni Green, Georgina Griffiths and Lexis Missen – Rapping ‘River’ by Eminem ft. Ed Sheeran, 3rd place – Big Picture Band – Down on the corner, Creedence Clearwater Revivial 
 The 1st place winners will enjoy a catered lunch with Principal, Mrs Michelle Nicholson.
