Medallions for our WWII veterans

22nd Sep 2020

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, has presented veterans in Guyra with commemorative medallions to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
The medallion, available to all living Second World War veterans who apply, is presented in a display case and is a gesture of appreciation from a grateful nation to those veterans who fought to protect our way of life in the terrible conflict that ended 75 years ago
Local recipients included well-known Guyra identity, Ted Mulligan OAM. The former Sergeant, who will turn 104 in November, enlisted in the Army in September 1941.
He saw active service in New Guinea and the South Pacific and was awarded several bravery and service medals.
Also presented with a commemorative medallion was former Leading Aircraftman and Guyra resident, Donald Cox.
“I thank both Ted and Donald for their service to this country,” Mr Joyce said.
“We are forever grateful for their contribution to the war effort and in defence of this nation.”
Second World War veterans, or their families on their behalf, can contact Mr Joyce’s electorate office on 6761 3080 to apply for a medallion, or online at dva.gov.au/medallion
