Guyra bred steer raises $8000 for charity

07th Apr 2026

An outstanding result has been achieved for the Schute Bell Charity Steer at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show. At this year’s auction, the gavel fell at $8,000, with Makani Meats securing the winning bid.
The steer, “Supple Basil,” a Hereford bred by the Rumbel family of Supple Whiteface, Guyra, was expertly prepared by the PLC Armidale Cattle Team.
The success of the charity steer is a true community effort. The processing fee was generously donated by Western Sydney Meat Worx, while many individuals and organisations contributed behind the scenes in the lead-up to the event.
The Schute Bell Charity Steer was auctioned on Thursday, April 2nd, during the Young Auctioneer Competition and Steer Auction at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
All proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, supporting its important work in heart research and innovation.
