Creative Streets takes flight with aerial acts

07th Oct 2025

Armidale’s creative scene will be taken to new heights this spring with a headline aerial artist showcase and fire and illumination show locked in for the 2025 Creative Streets Festival opening night on Friday October 17th.
Renowned for their breathtaking aerial performances, Big Top Entertainment is set to transform Armidale’s main street into a spellbinding spectacle. Their gravity-defying display includes silken aerial skills, daring trapeze acts, dazzling hoop routines, and a magical fire and illuminated show.
Main stage headliner Amaru Tribe is sure to set the festival alive with their folktronica collective blending of traditional Latin American sounds and contemporary beats. Also featuring on the main stage is modern folk duo, The Maes, and award-winning ABC recording artist, Sharny Russell.
The packed night continues as a vibrant series of murals are brought to life across the Armidale CBD, including Janne Birker (Krimsone) who will be painting a live mural on the opening night along the Burger Bulls wall in Marsh Street. Kitsune Jolene will join Krimsone to bring his artwork to life portraying a vibrant, immersive mural celebrating harmony with nature, local identity, and nostalgic Australian suburban life.
East End Mall will also get a new look, as New England Event Services and Phosphorus Visuals light up the mall with their state-of-the-art digital projection mapping display. Utilising cutting-edge 3D projection technology to light up some of Armidale’s iconic buildings, the displays will include vibrant animations, immersive storytelling, and interactive light shows.
New England Regional Art Museum will also be bringing their touch of creativity to the festival with a hands-on art activity for kids and families at the NERAM art tent, including popsicle weaving and sparkling suncatchers. Local preschools are also joining in on the creative action by decorating colourful banners which will be displayed throughout the festival.
Festival-goers will be able to enjoy their favourite venues in a whole new way with local pubs and restaurants spilling out onto the street, transforming the precinct into a vibrant hub of alfresco dining. Additional food trucks and stalls will also be at the opening night, adding even more flavour to the line-up and offering something delicious for everyone.
Armidale Regional Council Mayor, Sam Coupland, expressed his excitement for the inaugural Creative Streets Festival, stating it will be simply unmissable.
“The fusion of creative arts, local business, and the closure of one of our main streets, is sure to bring a memorable experience to the region,” said Mayor Coupland.
“This is a prime opportunity for the Armidale region to cement ourselves at the centre of the creative arts scene in the wider region. This will certainly be one not to miss.”
The Creative Streets Festival continues with a high calendar of events past opening night which will include vibrant murals, community workshops, live music, and more Friday night Creative Streets CBD activations. The festival is also part of a bumper spring season of events including the Black Gully Festival and the New England Garden Festival, ensuring there is plenty to do as the weather warms up.
