Pony Club Australia has announced the team set to represent the nation in this month’s international exchange with China Pony Club, with one familiar local name among those selected. Fourteen year-old Abbey Grills, will depart this week as part of the Australian team.
Over 10 days, the Australian team will travel to Gold Saddle Equestrian Club in Guilin and Capitano Pony Camp in Nanning, taking part in riding, cultural activities and shared learning experiences alongside Chinese riders. From competition days and trail rides to bamboo rafting and high-speed rail travel, the exchange promises a unique mix of equestrian opportunity and cultural immersion.
Abbey earned her place following a strong Zone 13 season, including standout performances at the Pony Club Jamboree in January. Her selection reflects years of dedication, horsemanship and commitment to the sport.
A long-time member of Guyra Pony Club, Abbey has spent 10 years involved in Pony Club and is regarded as both a consistent performer and a positive role model within the club community.
In her team bio, Abbey said she was “so happy and excited” to be selected and hopes to make her local Pony Club proud.
She is particularly looking forward to experiencing Chinese culture, working with new horses and forming friendships with both her Australian teammates and Chinese riders.
Abbey also hopes to learn more about international riding practices and gain a deeper understanding of life in China.
She thanked her parents, siblings, grandparents and the Guyra Pony Club community for their ongoing support.
Outside of Pony Club, Abbey enjoys playing polocrosse on her dad’s horse, handball at school and spending time with her cats.
