The Guyra Lady Golfers hosted a highly successful New England District Golf Association (NEDGA) Tournament over the weekend, earning great feedback from visiting players across the region.
A highlight of the event was the generous sponsorship from Armidale Automotive Group, which offered a brand-new Kia for a hole-in-one on the par-three 18th. Scrutineers Patty and Don Hill kept a close watch over the two days of competition, but despite plenty of hopeful shots, the prize remained unclaimed.
The scale of the tournament relied heavily on the efforts of volunteers, and organisers acknowledged the many helpers who contributed their time behind the scenes. Special thanks were extended to the Vets and gentlemen golfers who assisted with organising carts and starting the field, as well as to Darrin Towells for keeping play running smoothly.
Club staff also played a vital role, with Betty and her team receiving positive feedback for the accommodation and overall support provided throughout the weekend. Sammy was praised for delivering quality meals across both days of competition.
Course presentation was another standout, with greenkeeper Shane Brennan and his team commended for preparing the course to a district championship standard.
The weekend culminated in a well-received presentation dinner, where Suzanne and her team transformed the auditorium with a “Denim and Lace” theme, creating a fitting atmosphere to celebrate the tournament.
Guyra players also performed strongly in the results. Jenny Rogers claimed victory in Division 3, with Leonie Taylor finishing runner-up. Pip White secured the 36 Hole Nett title in Division 1, while Kerry Bull was runner-up. Linley Ryan also featured prominently, winning the 36 Hole Nett in Division 2, and Belinda Lenehan was runner-up in Division 3.
A team of four Guyra ladies took out the Mary White Cup, while Deb Heffernan and Tina Skipper won the Division 2 Foursomes Championship on Monday.
Organisers extended their appreciation to all Lady Golfers, along with Helen, Marie and Leanne, whose collective efforts ensured the event’s success.
